Energy Renaissance, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), has unveiled the superHome™, a cybersecure residential battery system manufactured at their gigafactory in New South Wales. This modular battery system offers scalable energy storage from 10.24 kWh to 60 kWh, catering to diverse household energy needs. It features full compatibility with Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), enabling energy trading and grid optimization, and supports 200% solar oversizing to maximize energy harvest. The system includes an intelligent power management system with integrated metering and monitoring, and a built-in hybrid inverter with compliant DC isolators, eliminating the need for additional hardware.
The superHome™ battery management system (BMS) is currently composed of approximately 80% Australian-sourced components, with a target of achieving 100% local sourcing. This initiative aligns with Australia’s National Battery Strategy, which aims to bolster domestic battery manufacturing and enhance energy security. The strategy identifies opportunities in stationary storage and the production of battery active materials, positioning Australia to capitalize on the growing global demand for batteries as the world transitions to net-zero emissions.
Context & Background
Australia’s National Battery Strategy, released in May 2024, aims to support domestic battery manufacturing and enhance economic resilience. The strategy identifies opportunities in stationary storage and the production of battery active materials, positioning Australia to capitalize on the growing global demand for batteries as the world transitions to net-zero emissions.
Energy Renaissance’s collaboration with CSIRO to develop the superHome™ battery system is a significant step in this direction. By focusing on local manufacturing and sourcing, the partnership seeks to reduce reliance on imported battery systems and strengthen Australia’s energy security. The superHome™ system’s cybersecure design and compatibility with Virtual Power Plants align with the strategy’s goals of building safer and more secure batteries connected to the grid.
